Class Trips/Spring Break Adventures!!

First stop: Vienna, Austria
Vienna was a very beautiful city. There were many interesting museums and a lot of history in that city.  There's even a Sigmund Freud museum. I visited the Museum of Art History and saw art, sculptures, and artifacts that belonged to the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans.  While in Vienna we also learned all about the Hapsburgs and visited the Imperial Furniture Museum which, used to be theirs.  We also learned the life if Queen Sisi and her whole life story until the day she was assassinated. The food there was delicious and so was the gelato.  We also got to see the Swiss Alps while in Austria, they were gorgeous!!

Second stop: Venice, Italy
Venice was beautiful city and the food was delicious. I also had to try the gelato there and it was great. People there are super friendly and outgoing.  We went to a palace while in Venice and also got to see one of the oldest cathedrals still standing.  Something interesting I learned was that in the winter, the city floods and they make special high sidewalks for people to walk on but sometimes people can't see the sidewalk because of all the water and they take a wrong step and fall on the water.  It was just so cool how the city operates without streets. So for example if you have to go to the hospital they would take you by boat, if you need a taxi, you take a taxi boat.  Even when people need to throw their trash away, they need to take it to the mainland.  So it was just fascinating how people live in Venice. During the day it is a very touristy place, but at night it's really quiet and not many people are out. We spent about two days in Venice and it's one of the places I'll never forget. Here are a couple pictures:

Third stop: Rome, Italy
Rome was a huge city! It was beautiful and there were millions of people there since it was holly week and Pope Francis was gonna be there later that week. While in Rome, we visited the Coliseum, it was gorgeous at night.  The next day we were there we was the Fontana de Trevi which was a beautiful fountain. En estimated 3,000 Euros are thrown into the fountain each day. We also went to St. Peters square, where we waited in line to go to St. Peter's Balisica. This is the place where the Pope was going to be the next day, but unfortunately our plane to Croatia left at 6am the next day. So we didn't get to see the Pope.  The Basilica was beautiful and we even attended mass for the 20-25 minutes that were left.  It was in Italian and it was cool how I could understand the majority of it.  We wanted to go to the Vatican city but there was a HUGE line waiting to go in.  It was an estimated 5 to 6 hour wait, so we decided not to go since the line seemed like it never moved. So we walked around the city and even went to the biggest park in Rome. We were only there for two days but we tried to get the most out of it. I really did enjoy my time in Italy and it's my favorite country that I have visited so far. Here are some pictures of Rome:

Last stop: Dubrovnik, Croatia
Dubrovnik is a city on the South coast of Croatia. It is a beautiful city and very relaxing as well. We were in Dubrovnik for almost 5 days and for the most part we relaxed.  Our hotel was in “New Town” the newer part of the city, so we were surrounded by hotels, restaurants, and all the newer buildings.  The “Old Town” is the part of the city where all the older buildings are, it’s surrounded by a tall wall, and it’s where you can find all the touristy and cultural things.  We walked around Old Town a couple times, both during the day as well as during the night. Dubrovnik is beautiful because it is on the coast but also because there are beautiful mountains everywhere.  We hiked a huge mountain and from the very top, we could see the whole city of Dubrovnik.  It was hard getting there but it was worth it. During our stay it wasn’t as hot as I wanted it to be, it was mostly cloudy except for one day. Even though it was cold, I still got in the water and swam for a little bit two days in a row. The water was freezing but after a couple minutes  it didn’t feel cold and it was relaxing.  The food there was delicious too, they eat a lot of fish there since it’s on the coast, so I tried seafood.  I’m not a big fan of seafood but it was alright.  One of the days we were on a restaurant, the power went off but thankfully there was candles on the tables so we were able to see and it was a great experience. Our waiter was super nice and even gave us a free drink. Overall, Dubrovnik was awesome and I would love to go back during the summer when it’s hot!!

After all these trips I was actually happy to be back in Olomouc. I had a great time in each city and learned a lot and I'm looking forward to all the future trips I will be taking! By the way, I love Kebabs! I had a Kebab in each city I've been in so far. They are delicious!!
